2007 Accomplishment Report

Black Emphasis Program

Goals and Activities

Goal A: Communication

Activity 1 Schedule appearances at Staff Meetings to provide BEPM information.
Complete; spoke to all three areas concerning CRAC and Black Emphasis Program.

Activity 2. Provide awareness training as requested.
Complete.

Activity 3: Participate in National NRCS Black Emphasis Program Managers’ Qtrly.Teleconferences.
Complete.

Activity 4: Participate in National NRCS Black Emphasis Program projects, such as Ongoing barrier identification.
Complete.

Activity 5: Secure education material and artifacts for permanent Cultural Library Jan-07 references.
Complete.

Activity 6: Report activities in newsletter articles, reports, and web site contributions. Complete.

Activity 7: Participate on the Civil Rights Advisory Committee.
Complete- all four meetings and assisted on subcommittees as needed.

Activity 8: Assist Civil Rights Advisory Committee in development of Affirmative

Goal B: Provide information and activity during Black History Month

Activity 1: Write information article on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Holiday Dec-07 Celebration. Schedule to send out to all WV-NRCS employees.
Complete.

Activity 2: Secure speaker for Black History Month Celebration Jan-07 Coordinated luncheon and informal presentation.

Activity3: Follow through with Black History Celebration Activities and publish Feb-07 by e-mail and newsletter articles.
Complete.

Activity 4: Secure at least 10 posters for RC&D, Area and State Office for Black Feb-07 History Month and lapel pins for principal staff.
Complete.

Goal C: Review Employment Plan

Activity 1: Participate/conduct Civil Rights Compliance Reviews as assigned.
Complete.

Activity 2: Report activities in newsletter articles, reports, web site contributions, etc. Complete- NEWS and Views article submitted.

Goal D: Outreach

Activity 1: Assist Human Resource Manager with recruitment efforts.
Complete.

Activity 2: Work with newly hired African American and other Minority personnel . No hires.

Activity 3: Assist the Civil Rights Advisory Committee with recommendations for the WV Mentoring Program.
Complete.

Activity 4: Report activities in newsletter articles, reports, web site contributions, etc.
Complete.

Goal E: Training

Activity 1: Review state training plan, both requests and approvals, for equity.
No training reported this year due to budget.

Activity 2: Attend the National Organization of Professional Black NRCS Dec-06mployees, Indianapolis, IN, December 2006.
No budget for attendance.

Activity 3: Provide Civil Rights Training to staff by giving Black Emphasis Program Complete, spoke to all three areas.

Goal F: Recruitment, Promotions, and Recognition

Activity 1: Review recruitment, promotion, and recognition statistical information to Sep-07 assure fair representation of black employees.
Complete.

Activity 2: Participate in recruitment team efforts that are directed towards blacks interested in a natural resource related career.

Activity 3: Encourage a Career Day with 1890’s school.
Complete.

Activity 4: Network with other State BEPM’s to better understand the career goals of and barriers faced by black employees.Complete.

Activity 5: Share career advancement opportunities (vacancy announcements, detail opportunities, job shadowing opportunities, etc.) with employees of the stateand other BEPM’s.
Complete.
