2007 Accomplishment Report

Disabilities Emphasis Program

Provide assistance to the State Conservationist in identifying the needs of NRCS customers with disabilities (internal and external).

Goal 1: Develop and maintain contact with other DEPM’s , National, State and local groups to increase awareness of persons with disabilities.

1. Serve as an advisor to the State conservationist, the West Virginia Civil Rights Committee and NRCS Employees.

Accomplishments:

  • Attended and participated in all quarterly meetings

2. Coordinate and observe Disability Awareness Month In West Virginia with NRCS Employees and NHQ

Accomplishments:

  • Emails sent state wide during national disability month
  • Disability posters available via email
  • Arranged for a display and an NRCS representative at the Mentoring day with the U.S Forest Service in Princeton WV

3. Increase awareness of Various disabilities to West Virginia NRCS staff through email and direct contact.

Accomplishments:

  • Disability emails sent to all offices

4. Attend Civil Rights Committee meetings and Present disability information at an area staff meeting.

Accomplishments:

  • Attended all civil rights meetings
  • Presentations given in 2006 to West and South areas

Goal II: Establish contacts with state and national disability organizations and coordinate NRCS disability activities in West Virginia.

1. Attend and represent WV at national Conferences.

Accomplishments:

  • Represented NRCS as a member of the AgrAbility steering committee

2. Participate in WV Paths conference, Charleston, WV.

Accomplishments:

  • Did not attend this year due to budget concerns.

3. Represent NRCS on The WV AgrAbilty Steering committee

Accomplishments:

  • Work with the AgrAbility steering committee, attending Quarterly meetings

4. Utilize information From WV Assistive Technology Systems

Accomplishments:

  • Forward emails from AgrAbility to all offices about assistive Technology for farmers.

5. Participate and exhibit at the disability Mentoring Day, Princeton, WV

Accomplishments:

  • Made arrangements for Wanda Smith to represent NRCS at the mentoring day

6. Assist with Civil Rights reviews

Accomplishments:

  • Review of the Cross Lanes field office.

GOAL lll: Promote employment of a person with disability in West Virginia.

1. Work with Human Resources to identify positions that may be filled with a person with a disability.

Accomplishments:

  • Ongoing with Human Resources. Send any national information and job applications to Human Resources.

2. Work with Human Resources to send out SF-256 forms to all employees for update.

Accomplishments:

  • Ongoing with Human Resources
