Federal Woman’s Program (FWP)
A. Communications:
- Attended quarterly Civil Right Advisory Committee meetings and
teleconferences.
- 11/9 Provided Breast Cancer awareness contacts to Beverly Stemple, USDA-OCIO-ITS
Information Technology Specialist.
- 10/22: Assault prevention.
- February 12-18 2007 Random Acts of Kindness Week.
- 1/29: Sent e-mail to ug-WV-nrcs with Go Red for Women Day. E-mail
with Heart Heath info about WV women’s health.
- West Virginia has the nation’s highest levels of heart disease.
- Heart disease and stroke are the No. 1 and No. 3 of killers both
men and women over age 25 in WV.
- NRCS wore red in support.
- 2/7: Attended a Go Red for Women Event (non work time)
sponsored by Mon General and the West Virginia Secretary of State
Betty Ireland.
- 2/8 Forwarded intern and education opportunities to CRAC members.
- Women’s History Month.
- 4/7 2007National Mentoring program info.
- Forwarded Chiefs corner information to the CRAC.
- May: National Women’s Health Week.
- E-mail information with WV statistic.
- Arranged a lunchtime presentation by Dr. Bob Thompson on health
issues.
- Posted WV lunch info to national site.
- 5/18 The state least like the rest of the nation: West Virginia.
- The Associated Press produced an analysis of U.S. Census Bureau data
that ranks the 50 states and the District of Columbia according to how
closely they resemble the country's demographics.
- They looked at 21 demographic factors from race, age, income and
education to immigration and the percentage of residents living in urban
and rural areas.

rankings.
- E-mailed article from the State Journal on WV diversity to CRAC and
Leadership team.
- October: Breast Cancer Awareness.

- According to the CDC website, West Virginia has the lowest rate of
breast cancer incidence of any state but many of these women die
- Completed WV FWP PowerPoint presentation and posted to the website.
B. Women’s History Month, Women’s Equality Day

History Forward for National Women’s History Month
- 3/6 Portraits of Women in West Virginia History sent to ug-wv-nrcs

- 6/14 Annual Summer Agricultural Institute.
- Reserved display, compiled brochures, and attended the WVU Employment
Expo.
- Six hundred students attended the Expo. About 100 students talked to
NRCS employees about career opportunities.

- Completed WV FWP PowerPoint presentation and posted to the website
- Participated and planned WV Envirothon.
- On Education committee
- Included articles in the News and Views about the Envirothon, and WV
Grassland Evaluation Contest .

- WV NRCS has 60 female and 126 male employees
- 32% of West Virginia employees are female compared to 34%
nationwide.
- 30 females (one half) and 73 males are in professional series.
