West Virginia NRCS Employee Recognized by USACE

Photo of Laura and awards Laura Davis, Soil Conservation Technician at the Beckley Service Center, was awarded the Commander’s Award for Civilian Service. The award was made by Colonel Charles O. Smithers III, District Engineer for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Memphis, TN.

This award is given for demonstrated initiative and skill in devising new or improved equipment or work methods; leadership in performing assigned duties; and rendered professional or public relations service which resulted in considerable favorable publicity in the local area. Laura was

commended for serving as a QA Team Leader for the Debris Removal Mission for the Louisiana Recovery Field Office in support of the response and recovery effort for Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. During the period 31 October 2005 through 29 December 2005, she exhibited energy and knowledge while supporting the mission. Her work ethic, professionalism and leadership and management abilities were significant factors in the success of the Jefferson Parish recovery efforts. Her outstanding performance and contributions reflect selfless devotion to duty and reflect great credit upon her, the LA-RFO, and the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers.

drawing of medal The award consists of 2 medals, lapel button and citation certificate. The Commander's Award for Civilian Service is comparable to the military Army Commendation Medal.

The star denotes leadership and alludes to the commander. The triangles refer to civilian service, three triangles in this instance, allude to integrity, steadfastness and accomplishment.
