Conservation Security Program Meetings Scheduled

Morgantown, WV—The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) has selected the Elk River watershed as one of the nation's eligible watersheds for the 2005 Conservation Security Program (CSP) sign-up. This watershed includes parts of Braxton, Clay, Kanawha, Nicholas, Pocahontas, Randolph, Roane, and Webster counties.

“CSP is different from any other NRCS program,” said John Cox, District Conservationist in Gassaway. “The program is open to any landowner who is currently a good steward of his land.” CSP is a voluntary program that rewards farmers and ranchers who meet the highest standards of conservation on their land. Landowners who follow nutrient, grazing, crop residue and/or pest management plans that promote soil and water quality; keep written records to better manage their operation; and are interested in other enhancements such as wildlife may qualify for program payments.

NRCS is holding informational meetings in the coming weeks to help determine if you are eligible for this program.
