WV NRCS Taking Applications for
Emergency Livestock Water Projects
MORGANTOWN, WV, June. 28, 2007 — The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service
(NRCS) announces a special ranking period for the Environmental Quality
Incentives Program (EQIP). West Virginia NRCS has set aside $250,000 of EQIP
funds for producers who need funding assistance with livestock water sources
because of the developing drought in West Virginia. Funding priority will be
given to those applications located in 42 counties declared disaster areas in
Governor Manchin’s emergency declaration of June 28, 2007.
“The moderate drought in West Virginia is causing hardship for livestock
producers,” said Kevin Wickey, West Virginia State Conservationist. “Farmers
have until July 13, 2007 to submit an application to be considered for this
special EQIP ranking.” EQIP contracts may include water wells, pumping plants,
pipelines, and/or watering facilities. Contract items are expected to be
completed within sixty days of contract obligation.
EQIP is a voluntary conservation program that promotes environmental quality and
assists producers to meet local, state and federal regulations. Funds help
farmers install conservation practices—reducing soil
erosion, improving water use efficiencies, and protecting grazing land.
