Elkins Field Office

Program: Wildlife Habitat Improvement Program (WHIP)

Overview:
WHIP has helped this Randolph County land user to improve wildlife habitat on his hunting area. Permanent wildlife food plots ranging in size from one-half to two acres were created. The food plots were established in orchardgrass and Ladino clover. These areas have become popular areas for many species of wildlife. Turkey hens and their broods have made wide use of the plots.

Landowner Benefits:
WHIP provides federal cost share dollars to the landowner for this and other
practices.

Wildlife Benefits:
The area now provides more food and improved habitat for wildlife.

Contact: For additional information call the NRCS Elkins Field Office between 8:00-4:30 at (304) 636-6703.
